About Mike

Practical, honest, and on your side.

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Bend, Oregon. People come to me when something has stopped working: anxiety that won't let up, a low stretch that's lasted too long, a loss they are carrying, a strained relationship, the daily struggle of parenting, or ADHD making it hard to keep life on track.

My style is direct and warm. I am a relationally based therapist with several decades of experience in the mental health field. I use evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, ACT, ERP, and EMDR. We'll get clear on your goals, then work on them together.

My approach

How we'll work together

  • Relational

I'm genuine, caring, and easy to talk to. You'll be met with empathy and understanding, and there's no judgment here.

  • Strengths-based

You are more than your problems. Together we'll draw on your strengths and positive intentions, and the ways you already contribute to the people and community around you.

  • Trauma-informed

Safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment guide everything we do. You set the pace.

  • Mindfulness-based and experiential

Therapy doesn't have to happen in an office. We can meet for a walk, a bike ride, or a hike, or sit on a park bench. Being in nature can make the work feel more alive.

  • Solutions-focused

We'll turn your priorities into action: set clear treatment goals together and map out the steps to reach them.

Questions

Before you reach out

What happens in the free consultation?

It's a 15-minute phone or video call. You tell me a little about what's going on, ask me anything about how I work, and we decide together whether I'm a good fit. There's no obligation.

What's the first session like?

We'll go over your history, what brings you in, and what you'd like to be different. By the end, you'll have a sense of how we'll work and how often we'll meet.

Is telehealth as effective as in person?

For most people and most concerns, yes. Sessions run on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You'll need to be located in Oregon, Washington, or Vermont at the time of each session.

I live outside Bend. Can I still work with you?

Yes. If you're anywhere in Oregon, Washington, or Vermont, we can meet by video. In-person sessions are available at my Bend office.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, with a few legal exceptions, such as a risk of serious harm to yourself or others or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. I'll walk you through these at the start.
